East Providence, Rhode Island
New England Fitness & Wellness, LLC, also known as Healthtrax, became a child care provider with the opening of Littletrax at their East Providence fitness center. The project converted unused exercise rooms into a child care center for 64 children ages 6 weeks through 5 years old.
While there is overlap between Littletrax families and Healthtrax members, Littletrax is open to all families in the community. The entrance to the child care space is nestled within the larger Healthtrax lobby, but is a self-contained area with privacy for the children and families.
The outdoor play space, which is bordered by concrete blocks and divided into two smaller play areas, was carved out of a forested hill lining the parking lot. Bollards line the path to the space, and its flat, grassy surface encourages loose parts play and has allowed fitness instructors to hold classes there.
