Center Spotlight: Westbay Children’s Center

With the implementation of the 2013 DCYF regulations and the subsequent re-measurement of classrooms, the Westbay Children’s Center in Warwick would have needed to drop enrollment in two of their preschool spaces in order to maintain compliance. After being awarded planning funds in Wave 2 of Race to the Top’s Early Learning Facility Grants, the Westbay Children’s Center hired a licensed professional to develop a set of drawings to address this issue. The plan proposed reconfiguring the two preschool spaces by absorbing a portion of the adjacent multi-purpose room, which would not only increase the classroom’s square footages, but be properly sized for 18 children. Once planning was complete and the project cost had been estimated, the Westbay Children’s Center was able to apply for – and be awarded – a capital grant in Wave 4 for the renovation of their space. The project was completed in January 2016, well before the May deadline. Congratulations to the Westbay Children’s Center – we were thrilled to play a role in this project!
