Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course and Exam

In Spring of 2024 the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), in partnership with the North Kingstown Recreation Department, will be hosting the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to offer the industry-leading Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification program. The CPSI certification program provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date training on playground safety issues including hazard identification, equipment specifications, surfacing requirements, and risk management methods.

WHEN: April 22nd and 23rd from 8am-5pm (Course Only) and April 24th from 9am-11am (Exam Only)

  2. Monday, April 22nd: Day 1 Course 8am-5pm (registration at 7:30am)
    Tuesday, April 23rd: Day 2 Course 8am-5pm
    Wednesday, April 24th: Exam 9am-11am (check-in at 8am)

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Review and study Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) materials;
  • Attend two days of in-person instruction; and
  • Take the CPSI certification exam (if desired).

Course participants will learn how to:

  • Identify hazards on public playgrounds and playground equipment;
  • Rank hazards according to injury potential; and
  • Apply that knowledge and establish a playground safety program.

NRPA Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course and Exam Registration: Policies & Terms of Registration

All LISC Rhode Island Policies and Terms of Registration are adopted in consideration of and in the best interest of conference attendees, LISC Rhode Island and the conference host facilities.

Statement of Liability

LISC Rhode Island’s Child Care Facilities Fund (RICCFF) and Sponsors of the Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course and Exam claim no liability for the acts of any supplier at or for this meeting, or for the safety of any attendee while in transit to or from this event. RICCFF and sponsors of this function shall not be liable for any delays or failure in performance of interruptions of services resulting directly or indirectly from any cause or circumstance beyond the reasonable control of the organization including but not limited to, acts of God, acts of public enemy, war, accidents, fires, electrical failures, strikes, labor disputes, postal delays, explosions, governmental order or regulations.

RICCFF and Sponsors reserve the rights to cancel this function without penalty. Attendees who purchase
non-refundable airline tickets do so at their own risk. The total amount of any liability of RICCFF and/or Sponsors will be limited to a refund of the attendance fee.

Recognizing the nature of receptions and the potential for alcohol abuse at conferences, all RICCFF sponsored events will offer non-alcoholic beverages. No alcohol will be served to anyone under the age of 21.

Conference participants are responsible for their own wellbeing and neither RICCFF and/or sponsors will be
held accountable for any events or occurrences resulting from excessive drinking, recklessness or negligence on the part of any conference participant.

RICCFF and attendees of this function, under the terms of registration, agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless each other, to include officers, employees and agents from and against any and all liabilities, loss, claims, expense, actions, or causes of action, arising out of or resulting from any act taken or committed by the attendees or organizers of this function or any third party except for the willful misconduct or gross negligence of the other party.

Refunds

Cancellations must be submitted in writing to RICCELFF@lisc.org by March 4, 2024 and will incur a $100 cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued if sent after March 4th.

Payment Methods

RICCFF accepts ONLINE PAYMENTS for this exam and course. Payment is also accepted by check (see registration page for details). Registrants not providing RICCFF with payment will be considered an incomplete registration and will not be able to attend RICCFF conferences until payment has been made.

Smoking

For the comfort and health of all attendees, smoking is not permitted at any RICCFF sponsored functions. Attendees should adhere to any signage preventing or authorizing smoking in certain locations.

Course Etiquette

To make the course experience an enjoyable event for all attendees, we ask that you please keep the following in mind:

As a courtesy to our instructors, please refrain from the use of cell phones during presentations. And, please keep in mind that participants of this course are in attendance to learn. Therefore, in consideration of all attendees we ask that you please take any conversations that are unrelated to the program outside the classroom.

In order to accommodate environmental sensitivities of some of our peers, if at all possible, please do not wear scented products while attending the session.

Age & Education Requirement

Candidates sitting for the CPSI Certification examination must be 18 or older and have a high school degree or equivalent. Your legal identification will be verified upon entry into the examination site.

Special Accommodations

An individual who has a disability may request a special accommodation; the request must be submitted to the host in writing prior to the course or examination. The Special Accommodations Request Form is available online at www.nrpa.org/CPSI. In order to properly accommodate all persons with disabilities it is recommended that all requests come in writing no less than 30 days prior to the course and exam.
