The City of Providence Early Learning Facilities Grant funding was included in the City of Providence’s budget when Mayor Jorge Elorza and the Providence Public School District (PPSD) recognized and prioritized the need for the district/City to provide increased access to high-quality, affordable early care and education to the children residing in Providence. This grant and technical assistance program was designed to meet the unique needs of early childhood programs in Providence.
There are no set caps for this funding, but grant awards will be based on actual estimated costs of projects. This will require reaching out to professionals to be hired (design professionals or contractors) to get written estimates to be submitted with your grant application.
Yes, the 2023 round of funding includes sole proprietors as an eligible business type! Please be prepared to submit copies of your Schedule C tax returns to fulfill the financial document requirement of the application process.
Please let us know if you are unable to obtain an estimate and we will work with you to ensure you are still able to apply. If that happens, we will ask you to follow up with estimate information during the month of April when we will be reviewing applications. We can be flexible with this requirement for initial application purposes, but it will be needed in order for a final funding decision to be made in late April.
