Newport County YMCA Celebrates Successful Project and Recognizes LISC RI

For nearly 10 years, the RICCELFF has partnered with Twice as Nice Preschool at the Newport County YMCA to explore expansion possibilities for the facility. In 2021, voters approved the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Capital Fund  – a program administered by LISC’s RICCELFF in partnership with the Department of Human Service (DHS) – in a special election, and the YMCA applied for expansion funding. The project, which created 44 new child care slots and improved 50, included classrooms for infants for the first time at the site. A 2019 Child Care Facilities Assessment found a particularly significant lack of child care slots in Newport, making the YMCA’s expansion even more critical.

At their annual meeting held this May, the Newport County YMCA honored LISC Rhode Island with the 2024 Youth Development Award, recognizing the dedication and persistence of the LISC Rhode Island team in supporting the project’s success. We look forward to continuing to work with the YMCA and discovering what is next!
